Two weeks ago I told you Brady MacDonald was running a 50K here and that North Dakota's episode would be whatever we made it. Sunday morning we found out.
It was not a big crowd. It was the right one. A handful of people got up before the sun, drove out to Medora, and ran with a guy most of them had never met, for a cause none of them had any obligation to. Nobody had to be there. That is the whole point.
Bryce and Samson brought crosses. They brought a third one for Brady. The three of them carried them through the first half of the 5K, and watching that come together at sunrise is the image I am going to keep from this year.

Kayla Ruby showed up and ran, and brought a couple of her daughters with her. The sun came up over Medora while we were out there, and if you have not seen that town at that hour, put it on your list. We finished the 5K, went and had a great breakfast to celebrate, and then Brady went back out and ground out the other 45K alone in the Badlands. He ran into a wild horse and walked up on a giant buffalo along the way. That is his day 30 of 50.

Getting to spend the morning with Brady and his family was the best part of the weekend for me. Good people, and easy to root for.

After Brady headed back out, Courtney and I went and toured the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. We were blown away. It is interactive, genuinely educational, and we walked out realizing how many of Teddy's contributions still shape the country today and how different things would look without him. Make it a priority. It is worth the drive on its own.

North Dakota's leg raised over $5,000. Brady has 20 states left, back to back, with a goal of $1 million for Make-A-Wish. That funds roughly 100 wishes at about $10,000 each. North Dakota is done running. North Dakota is not done giving.
